If you divided Alaska into two equal sections, Texas would still be the third largest state.

The only Canadian province or territory larger than Alaska is the newly formed Territory of Nunavut which came into being on April 1,1999.

The three western Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba would

have to merge to become bigger than Alaska.

To the eye glaciers often appear blue - this is caused by the fact that when light hits the glacial ice all the colors of the spectrum are absorbed except for blue which is reflected.

A few of the different types of glaciers you can see while traveling in Alaska: Fresh Water Glacier - calves into a fresh water lake; Tidewater Glacier - calves into the ocean; Hanging Glaciers - found high up on a mountain; Cirque Glaciers - are found either at the head of a valley or in a cirque basin; Peidmont Glacier - is a large ice lobe that spreads out over surrounding terrain and is usually part of the terminus of a mountain valley glacier ( the World's largest Peidmont glacier is the Malaspina Glacier in Alaska which covers over 8,000 square kilometers (3088 sq. miles) and is over 193 kilometers (64 miles) across at its widest point).

In a glacier, ice crystals can grow to be as large as a baseball.

When ice breaks of from the terminus of a glacier it is called calving and is accompanied with noise when the ice beaks off above the water; when the ice breaks off form below the water line there is no noticeable noise associated with it, only a frothing action on the water's surface before the iceberg pops out of the water.

A dark blue iceberg was formed from ice that came from the lower part of a glacier where most of the air bubbles were compressed out of it.
